Securing a clinical placement site on your own can be a challenge. Fortunately, many FNP programs across the country are willing to lend a helping hand. If you’re looking to attend a program in the western region of the states, here are seven Family Nurse Practitioner programs that provide clinical placements for their students.
Oakland, CA
Though the FNP program at Holy Names University works with many preceptors in a variety sites throughout the Northern California region, the professors do recommend that students be flexible in their placements as the school is not always able to offer exactly what each student wants in their clinical site.
2. San Francisco State University
San Francisco, CA
Because SF State is dedicated to practicing social justice with an unwavering commitment to reduce health disparities within local communities, the program places its FNP students in community health practicums in underserved San Francisco neighborhoods.
3. University of California – Davis
Sacramento, CA
At the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, a dedicated clinical team finds its FNP students rotation sites that have a focus on primary care and serve rural, diverse and aging populations.
4. University of Colorado Denver
Denver, CO
UC Denver arranges clinical placements for all of its FNP students who reside in the Denver Metro area, which incompasses the counties of Jefferson, Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas, Broomfield and Boulder. Students who do not live in the area, however, are responsible for securing a faculty approved clinical site on their own.
5. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
Belton, TX
At the Scott and White School of Nursing, the FNP program helps students find clinical placements throughout the state of Texas.
6. University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
Edinburg, TX
The faculty at UTRGV provides its FNP students with a list of affiliations that they can select their rotations from and will place students accordingly, if needed.
Provo, UT
The largest private school in the country, BYU places FNP students in clinical experiences throughout urban and rural Utah. Many of the facilities maintain continual clinical research programs and innovative management strategies that are appropriate for graduate students. The sites also offer a challenging experience for students that help their development as independent practitioners.
