The clinical portion of your FNP program can be an exciting time. It’s an opportunity to put what you’ve learned in the classroom into practice and gain hands on experience before you graduate and begin your new career as a nurse practitioner. However, finding a preceptor and securing a clinical site on your own can be daunting and downright stressful.
Fortunately, many FNP programs throughout the country take the responsibility of clinical placements off of students and into their own hands. If you’re considering attending an FNP program in the south, here are five schools that handle clinical placements on behalf of students.
Coral Gables, FL
The University of Miami assists its FNP students throughout the entire clinical placement process, pairing them with preceptors at various clinical sites in Miami and Broward counties. The sites range from academic teaching centers to private community practices and in a number of general and specialized areas.
Louisville, KY
Bellarmine University has its own designated graduate clinical coordinator to secure all clinical sites for each FNP student.
Virginia Commonwealth University
Richmond, VA
Ranked in the nation’s top 50 graduate nursing programs by U.S. News and World Report, the FNP program at VCU finds clinical sites for all of its students, placing them with highly qualified clinical preceptors who are committed to the professional growth of future FNPs.
Huntington, WV
Students enrolled in Marshall University’s FNP program complete their clinical experiences in underserved populations as part of the state’s own initiatives for primary health care. The university provides students with a network of providers of which they are able to choose their preceptors from.
Morgantown, WV
WVU provides clinical placements for all of its in-state students and will assist out-of-state students in locating potential sites if they are able to, as some states do not allow distance learning students at WVU to participate in a practicum experience; therefore the university cannot guarantee a site placement for FNP students who are completing the program via distance learning while residing in certain states.
