How Likely Are You to Get Into an East Coast FNP Program?
From ivy leagues to smaller, private colleges, the east coast boasts a plethora of highly sought after family nurse practitioner programs. Continuing with our series on acceptance rates, here’s what faculty at east coast schools had to say about the likelihood of being accepted into their masters FNP programs.
Fairfield, CT
An admissions committee at Sacred Heart University decides, based on criteria, which applicants will be admitted per cohort. In the Fall of 2018, the program admitted a total of 48 students.
West Hartford, CT
At the University of Saint Joseph, FNP applicants are reviewed by an A&P committee in October and March. Candidates are then invited to participate in mandatory interviews prior to their acceptance in the program. The number of applicants accepted varies with each cohort, but the FNP program tries to keep class size between 15-20 students per semester.
Portland, ME
Acceptance rates to the FNP program at the University of Southern Maine depends greatly on the program and plan of study; for example, for applicants who already have a BSN, the acceptance rate is about 75%, however, most openings in the program are for the part time plan of study, not full time. Because the FNP program keeps its clinical cohorts at 24 students, when a student is accepted into the program, they’re given a start date for classes and a start date for clinicals. In some cases, students who would like to attend full time may be accepted into the part time program; in these instances, the FNP program will try to move students up as full time openings become available.
