Can You be a Fashionable Nurse?

It’s so easy to wake up in the morning, throw on a pair of scrubs and walk out the door. But, just because as nurses we wear uniforms doesn’t mean we should succumb to looking frumpy. As nurses we have a reputation to uphold.

When you wake up in the morning, you must put some effort into your appearance. Rather than putting your hair in the same old unkempt ponytail, add a fancy (but quick and easy!) side braid. Try a sock bun. Wear studs. Don some nude nail polish. Freshen up your face by adding some eye-highlighting makeup or add a pop of color to your cheeks with a little blush.

Taking five extra minutes in the morning to make yourself look more presentable will go far in improving your relationships with your patients. Some added effort when it comes to your appearance enhances your credibility. Who wants a nurse with tangled hair taking care of them?

As a nurse, your physical appearance must come across in such a way that it looks like your life is put together. This way, your patients will trust you and the advice you have to offer. If you look disorganized and disheveled, your medical advice will be dismissed.

When I wear a watch, I feel like the smartest person in the room. Fun fact: I wear a watch to every exam because I feel as if I perform better. As a nurse a good watch is vital. This watch by Michael Kors is my favorite because it’s simple but the fun color makes me happy.

Next time you wake up, give yourself five extra minutes in the morning to work on your appearance. I promise, it will make a difference! By dressing in a more professional manner your patients will have more confidence in your advice and abilities.
