It’s financial week here at ThriveAP and today we’re talking scholarships. Like I discussed in an earlier post, applying for multiple, lower dollar scholarships is the best strategy for some aspiring NPs. But, sometimes you just want to go big. If you could use some help paying for your nurse practitioner program, check out these scholarship awards worth $10,000 or more.
Tylenol Future Care Scholarship
Every year, Tylenol awards 30 scholarships for up to $10,000. Applicants are judged based on GPA, academic records in public health, medical, nursing or pharmacy schooling, community involvement and the application essay. Stay tuned, the 2014 application season opens soon.
Graduate Scholarships in Career OR Cancer Nursing Practice
Funded by the American Cancer Society, this scholarship awards up to $10,000 to graduate students pursuing a master’s degree or DNP and who plan to work in oncology.
GotScholarship $40K Giveaway
Low GPA? This scholarship is for you. GotChosen scholarships differ from other programs in that winners are chosen in a random drawing rather than by academic achievement or financial need. While this particular scholarship isn’t nursing focused, the opportunity to win $40,000 was just too good to pass up.
After College AACN $10,000 Scholarship Fund
Multiple application deadlines make the After College AACN Scholarship Fund perfect for students who are a little late in the game this application season. The scholarship program supports students enrolled in a bachelor’s master’s or doctoral degree nursing program. Applicants must be enrolled in, not simply accepted to, an AACN member institution.
Patricia G. Archibald Predoctoral Scholar Award
This one’s a biggie. The Patricia G. Archibald Scholar Award gives one winner $100,000 distributed over two years towards their education. The scholarship is designed to support a doctoral nursing student interested in a career in academic gerontological nursing.
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Careers in Nursing Scholarship
Direct Entry Nurse Practitioner Programs are particularly costly. Fortunately, the New Careers in Nursing Scholarship singles out students in accelerated nursing programs offering financial support. The program awards scholarships in $10,000 allotments.
Johnson & Johnson/ AACN Minority Nurse Faculty Scholars Program
Interested in teaching? The Minority Nurse Faculty Scholars Program supports minority nurses looking to further their schooling for the purpose of educating others. Five, $18,000 scholarships are awarded to highly qualified candidates. If you’re a good fit for this award, start your application soon- the deadline to submit materials is May 1.
If you aren’t a candidate for any of these hefty scholarship awards, you still have plenty of options when it comes to financing your NP education. Consider applying for federal or state student loan repayment programs. Or, apply for multiple, smaller scholarships.
